Welcome to Secrets of a Southern Girl!

After up rooting and moving to Pennsylvania for a few years, I, Mandy Black, am now at home. Well, I am as close to home as it will get: Houston, Texas.

I am an original southern girl, born and raised in Mississippi. Yes, I grew up on corn bread and my mama's cooking and would not trade one second that I spent in the woods and on four-wheelers for all the eggs in China. I have an accent; I say things like "fixin' to" and "do what now"; and I will always be the one who sends a written thank you note rather than an abbreviated text message.

When asked who I would consider a hero, I simply smile and say, "my mama, my grandmothers, and Emily Post, of course." My sub zero chillibrator (a bit of literature appreciation for those Dr. Seuss fans) is always stocked with sweet tea, heavy cream, and butter, and I'm not afraid of my curves.

I think it is a real shame that some children don't get the opportunity to run in pastures, learn to drive on dirt roads and tractors, and have their mama and daddy know what they did wrong before they have the opportunity to make up a lie.

I know the true meaning of "bless your heart," and I'm not afraid to fight for the things that matter. Family isn't just a noun; it's the basis of who I am.

Growing up in the South is something I will treasure always. I hope I can bring a little of me to the blogging world... and do it justice. Hope you enjoy! Leave comments, share, and never forget your roots!
